Traction Villa Elevator
The mainstream choice for houses with a standard shaft and headroom.
View Details
The positive drive villa elevator pairs a high-efficiency gearbox with a permanent-magnet synchronous motor to run without a counterweight at all. Removing the counterweight frees roughly a third of the shaft plan area for the car and reduces the headroom and pit depth the building must provide — which makes it the model to evaluate first whenever a standard traction unit will not fit.
A conventional traction lift devotes a substantial part of the shaft to a counterweight running in its own guide rails. In a new building that is a design decision; in an existing house it is often the reason the project is abandoned. The positive drive removes the counterweight entirely and takes the reaction through a high-efficiency gearbox.
The practical benefit is simultaneous: headroom, pit depth and shaft utilisation all improve. The car can be wider and deeper for the same structural opening, and the shaft top can be lower because there is no weight stack to accommodate at the top of travel.
Machine noise is controlled at approximately 48 dB — the level of quiet conversation — and the unit is installed 1:1, avoiding the rope multiplication that amplifies vibration in some residential designs. The permanent-magnet control cabinet is potted and sealed, and mechanical or electrical brake release allows the car to descend at below 0.1 m/s, slowly enough to be safe in any situation.
Starting current is only about 1 A above the rated value, so the household supply sees no inrush surge and normally no upgrade of the incoming cable or meter is required.

Values shown are typical for the standard configuration. Final data are confirmed on the approved layout drawing for each project.
Three project types choose the positive drive almost every time: narrow town-house stairwells where a counterweight would consume the whole shaft; retrofit projects with a low shaft head and a shallow slab; and bedrooms immediately adjacent to the lift, where 48 dB and 1:1 suspension matter more than anything on the specification sheet.
If your measured shaft is marginal for a conventional traction lift, send the dimensions. We will model both options and show you the trade-off in car size, headroom and cost rather than simply quoting the larger machine.

Yes. Safety does not depend on the counterweight: the governor, safety gear and buffers act on the car and its rated load. Removing the counterweight changes only the traction arrangement, and the machine is rated for the full unbalanced load.
Usually. Removing the counterweight typically recovers 25–35% of the shaft plan area. If your measured shaft is marginal for a standard traction unit, evaluate this model first.
No. The high-efficiency gearbox and permanent-magnet motor compensate for the loss of counterbalancing, and standby consumption is negligible. Running power stays in the 1.5 kW class.
